Ruben Salazar mural at Lincoln Park

Ruben Salazar mural at Lincoln Park
March 3, 1928 - August 29, 1970 the following is what is painted at the bottom of the mural. it is a testament to the man who never shrank from reporting the truth. On August 29, 1970, 20,000 Chicanos marched through the streets of E.L.A. (East Lost Angeles-Laguna Park, specifically) protesting the Vietnam War and the highter death rate among Chicanos in proportion to other nationalities (ethnicities). At the rally following the march, the people were suddenly attacked by police. Three people were killed a nd many were injured. Among those killed was El Paso's own Ruben Salazar, a well known journalist, dedicated to the advancement of the Chicano community. This mural is dedicated to those who gave their lives and to those who continue the struggle against injustice.
